4.7. Alliance of European Conservatives and Reformists (AECR)
The Alliance of European Conservatives and Reformists (AECR) is a non-federalist centre/centre-right group that supports conservative and classical liberal principles. The ECR Group was duly formed in June 2009. The core of the group is 55 MEPs from 9 countries (incl. Latvia and Lithuania).
Partly the AECR has grown out of the Alliance for Europe of the Nations (AEN), to which Alliance from Estonia belonged Eestimaa Rahvaliit. But as a part of the AEN joined the EPP and a part the EFA, the AECR cannot be deemed as successor of the AEN. (At present the AEN is not considered as apolitical party on European level, although it still exists as a political movement.) The AECR cooperates with the European Think Tank: New Direction – Foundation for European Reform.
In the European Parliament AECR is represented in the European Conservatives and Reformists Group where it has 54 seats (Borchardt 2010, 51).
About the aims and activities of the AECR see http://aecr.eu
Estonia has no representatives in the AECR.
