The Aims of the Learning Object

Why?

The learning object is addressed to undergraduate and graduate students of the Tallinn University of Technology and of other European Universities. The aim of the learning object is to explain the renewed by the Lisbon Treaty role of the European Council as a main political institution of the EU. (The elected President of the European Council is called the President of the EU). The learning object forms part of the course "Accountability and Review of the EU Institutions" read at the Tallinn University of Technology.

 

Activities

  • The student reads theoretical materials;
  • The student performs self-control exercises at the e-learning environment;
  • The student participates in discussions concerning the solved exercises.

 

Study Outcomes

  • The student understands:
A) the reset inter-institutional balance in the EU;

B) the agenda-setting role of the European Council;

C) the membership of the European Council;

D) the role and fuctions of the President of the European Council;

E) the relation between the President of the European Council and the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy;

F) the relation between the President of the European Council with other EU organs;

G) accountability of the European Council.

 

Assessment

Method of assessment:
Self-control exercises that hopefully increase more motivated learning will not be graded, but during the final exam will be graded the general understanding of the topic. Discussion of the relevant questions together with questions in other learning objects will form appr. 20% of the final grade.
